The problem with jobs for 13 and 14 year olds is that there are not too many of them. Kids that age are too young to be hired and so companies don’t have anything for them. Children who have just become teenagers are kind of on their own to try and drum up something in their neighborhood to raise a little extra money.
Kids often start out babysitting and doing yard work like weeding or maybe mowing lawns. The more creative the child is, the more options he or she will come up with. Pet walking, car washing, and running errands are a couple of other things they might do. No matter what though, it is hard for kids that age to earn a steady income over the summer or whenever they need it.
Employers are more geared towards older teens which makes it easier for them to find a steady job. 15 and 16 year olds are more dependable and responsible so are more likely to find a summer job to rely on for steady income. Not all teens will find work because there isn’t a lot jobs available to them. Less demanding establishments like grocery stores, fast food restaurants, and gas stations are commonly a teens first job. A teen might not make a lot of money, but they will gain the experience and references they’ll need in the future for other job opportunities.
Another option for teenagers is to try to make some extra money online. While there aren’t really any real online jobs for teens, it doesn’t mean that they can’t start learning how to make some extra pocket money. Teens learn new stuff very quickly and especially anything to do with technology and computers.
It’s hard to find the right information to earn money online, but teens have the same opportunity as anyone and will work just as hard to succeed. Because no one can guarantee the economy will get better soon, it’s a good idea for a teen to begin their job search now rather than waiting for the right job to come along. Teenagers with enterprising skills will succeed in just about anything, even if it’s an Internet money maker.
